This map depicts the Clark’s Fork and the Flathead Lake country, and is labeled “Carte des sources de la riv. A Clark où Tetes Plates.” Drawn with colored inks on an ivory background, the map is dated 1847. On the map, locations of horse-grazing plains, the camas prairie, the hot springs, and the Jesuit mission are all indicated. At the time that De Smet drew the map, the region was occupied by the Pend Oreille. It would, in 1855, be set aside as a reservation for the Salish and Pend Oreille.
