Description

The map was drawn by Victor, chief of the Salish Indians, who was baptized by De Smet. The map depicts Roothaan’s Lake (modern Priest Lake) and is drawn in pencil on ivory colored paper. De Smet baptized Victor in 1841 and the chief died shortly thereafter. This map, therefore, is dated to c. 1841.
